Student Recreation Center Policies
The Student Recreation Center is located on the corner of Sessom Drive and Academy Street. The SRC welcomes all members with a current Texas State ID or a Campus Recreation Membership Card. Guests must pay the $3 guest fee and be accompanied by a current member.


Mission Statement
The Department of Campus Recreation serves as a vital and integral part of student life on campus. The mission of the department is to provide a broad spectrum of sports, recreation and leisure activities for students, staff and faculty, as well as members of the local community. The primary direction is to provide services and programs that stimulate growth, development and retention of students in a contemporary and safe environment that develops fitness and wellness, social interaction and leadership opportunities.
Participation Agreement
All physical activities offered in the Student Recreation Center and at other Campus Recreation facilities are on a voluntary participation basis and carry various degrees of risk or injury. Participants assume sole responsibility for any and all such risk or injury that may result due to voluntary participation. It is each individual's responsibility to be knowledgeable of his/her own physical condition when participating in any activity.
Participation Conduct
Facility users are expected to respect the facilities and the rights of other individuals. Any user of the facilities who engages in any disorderly conduct, including verbal or physical abuse of any employee or other user, is subject to immediate removal from that facility and possible loss of privileges.
SRC Eligibility
All students, faculty, staff, graduates, and guests are permitted into the facilities with proof of membership.
SRC Entrance
All users must present an activated current Texas State ID or membership card to gain entrance into the SRC.
Guest Passes
Due to the large population of student, faculty and staff memberships the SRC must administer a three guest per person limit. These guest passes will be available provided the following guidelines are met:
- Each guest can pay the $3.00 fee to access the facility for the day.
- The sponsor must escort his/her guest(s) into the facility.
- Guests must be 12 years of age or older.
- The sponsor is responsible for the conduct and actions of his/her guest(s) while utilizing Campus Recreation facilities. This includes lost, stolen or damaged equipment, as well as, any facility damage.
- The SRC reserves the right to refuse admittance to any guest.
Guests are not permitted to check out equipment. His/her sponsor should check out all equipment. - A Texas State faculty or staff person may sponsor themselves in by showing their valid University ID and adhering to all other guest pass policies.
Parking/Transportation
The Student Recreation Center (SRC) expansion is underway, during this time parking to access the facility will be challenging. We encourage SRC patrons to incorporate their trip to the facility as part of their workout by walking, jogging or biking to the SRC. Campus shuttles are also available. The Speck Parking garage will be open for Fall '08 to provide additional parking for our growing campus. The Speck purple commuter and Family and Consumer Sciences red restricted lots open up for all parking permits after 3pm. Parking lots may be used if the vehicle owner has a valid University permit, obtained through the Parking Control Office.
The shuttle bus service provides transportation to the SRC and is a highly recommended means of transportation.
Bike racks are available outside the SRC for students who choose to ride their bikes. Bicycles are not permitted in the facility or directly outside the main entrance.
Public Service Officers
Public Service Officers offer a free escort service to ensure the safety of students traveling on campus alone. To request an escort please call (512)245-2890.
Child Policies
Child users and child guests of users are asked to follow these facility guidelines:
- Adult members are responsible for the actions of their children and will be held liable for any damage.
- Children under 16 will not be permitted in the Weight Room or on any exercise machine at any time.
- Dependents of students, faculty, and staff must be 16 years old or older to use the facility unescorted.
- To obtain a membership, dependents must provide the parent's membership card and a photo ID.
- Parents may escort a child (11 or under) in for special event observation only, at no cost.
- Children under 18 years of age are required to wear goggles when playing racquetball.
Towel, Storage Locker and Lock Fees
Free workout towels and day locks are available at the Information Desk with the exchange of an ID or membership card. Locks and shower towels are available on a daily basis with the presentation of appropriate identification. Shower towels are $.50 each per day.
These items must be returned each day. (Note: there is a $10.00 fine for a lost lock or towel.) Participants may use lockers while using the facility. However, all personal locks must be removed from lockers before the Student Recreation Center closes each night. Locks not removed will be cut off, a $10.00 administration fine will be assessed and contents will be sent to University Police Department (UPD).
ASC Eligibility
All students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests are permitted into the facility with proof of ID.
ASC Entrance
- All users must relinquish a current Texas State ID or membership card to gain entrance into the ASC.
- Dependents 16 or under must be accompanied by a parent and remain with them at all times.
- Sponsored individuals are ineligible to sponsor guests.
ASC Guest Passes
Students and SRC current members are welcome to bring guests to the facility. Each member is limited to three (3) guests per visit.
- Each guest can pay the $3.00 fee to access the facility for the day.
- The sponsor must escort his/her guests into the facility.

- The ASC reserves the right to refuse admittance to any guest. Guests are not permitted to check out equipment. His/her sponsor should check out all equipment.
- A Texas State faculty or staff person may sponsor themselves in by showing their valid University ID and adhering to all other guest pass policies.
ASC General Policies
- No person without a swim suit may enter the water. T-shirts, tennis shorts, football shorts, etc., will not be allowed.
- No person with sores, open wounds, or other evidence of skin disease is permitted to use the pool.
- Spitting, spouting of water, roughness, and rowdiness will not be permitted in the pool.
- Smoking is not permitted in the facility.
- No food, drinks, glass containers or alcoholic beverages are allowed in the facility.
- No running, pushing, throwing, or dunking of other swimmers.
- Equipment such as kickboards, hand paddles, etc. is available upon request.
- No hanging on lane ropes.
- No one is permitted to swim without a lifeguard on duty.
- Swimming proficient children may use lap lanes and kick boards for swimming only.
- No diving will be allowed from the diving board or diving stands.
- Whenever additional rules are deemed advisable for the health and safety of the patrons, the Aqua Sports Center staff may put additional rules into effect.
Jowers Center
- Gum chewing is not permitted in the facility.
- No food, drinks, glass containers or alcoholic beverages are allowed in the facility.
- Appropriate footwear is required for each activity.
Equipment Rental & Check-Out
A wide variety of recreational equipment is available for check out. A few items have a small rental fee associated with checkout. Inquire with the Information Desk staff. Card holding members are eligible to use this service upon the presentation of required identification. Equipment may be used inside or outside the Student Recreation Center. There is a $2.00 per-item per-day late return charge. A replacement charge will be assessed for lost or damaged equipment. Failure to pay this fine will result in a charge assessed to the user's University account.
Lost/Found Items
All lost and found items will be held at the Information Desk for at least two days, after which they will be sent to UPD. Lost IDs are picked up by ID services on a weekly basis. If an item is lost, simply inform the Information Desk. Please return any found items to the Information Desk.
The Student Recreation Center staff suggests all members not bring valuables into the facility to prevent loss or theft. The Department of Campus Recreation assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items.
General Policies
- The SRC is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
- Gum chewing and spitting are not permitted in the facility.
- Eating and drinking are permitted in the lounge/snack bar area only.
- In-line skates/roller skates/skateboards are not allowed in the SRC.
- All personal articles must be kept in designated lockers or under benches; not on activity room floors, courts or other surfaces.
- Boom boxes are not allowed in the SRC except those used for Department of Campus Recreation programs. Individual headphones are permissible.
- Football, softball, frisbee or other activities that involve projecting items through the air are not permitted in the facility.
- Appropriate footwear is required for each activity area.
- - Marking/streaking and running shoes are prohibited on all wood surfaces (basketball, racquetball, and aerobics studio).
- Cleats or spikes are not allowed on any surface in the SRC.
- Any shoes that contain excess dirt, mud, and/or grease, etc., will not be permitted on any floor surface.
- Open-toe shoes are not permitted in any activity area. - Sparring-type activities may be performed only under SRC supervision; protective equipment must be worn. Martial arts aids or other aids must be approved by the Associate Director before they may be incorporated into activity.
Disc Golf Course Policies
- No glass or alcoholic beverages permitted.
- No dogs.
- Play should occur during daylight hours.
- Keep pace with group in front of you. Allow faster players to play through.
Fields Policies
- Dogs and bikes are not permitted.
- Alcohol and glass are prohibited.
- No smoking except in designated areas.
- No hitting of golf balls.
- Only scheduled Campus Recreation Activities are permitted on the fields.
Weight Room Policies
- Open-toe shoes are not permitted.
- No gym or book bags permitted in the weightroom.
- Only resealable beverage containers are allowed.
- Gum chewing is not permitted.
- Participants may not wear sports bras only.
- All participants should utilize the workout towel service provided and wipe down equipment following their use.
Racquetball Policies
- Eye guards are recommended for the safety of players.
- Court reservations are highly suggested.
- Children under 18 years of age are required to wear goggles.
- Appropriate footwear is required on racquetball courts.
- Racquetball/Handball/Wallyball Court Reservations
- Court reservations are for a one hour period, beginning on the hour, and may be made by calling or visiting the Information Desk on the day of the reservation.
- Individuals may reserve only one court for a one hour period of time; only when that hour is up and there are courts available for the next hour, can an individual continue play after completing his/her reserved time.
- Only one court per-day may be reserved by each person.
Texas State Golf Course Policies
- All players must register in the Golf Pro Shop.
- Play begins on Hole #1.
- Each player must have own clubs and bag.
- Altered shirts or tanks are not permitted.
- No turf or lug (boot) soled shoes.
- Keep pace with group in front of you. Allow faster players to play through.
- Carts must remain on paths at all times.
- No glass or alcoholic beverages permitted. (All coolers are subject to being checked.)
- Course is open to Texas State students, faculty, staff and the community.
- Any violations of these rules may result in immediate dismissal from the course. NO rainchecks or refunds will be issued.
University Camp
- Reservations are made at the Outdoor Center and may be made only by Texas State faculty, staff, students and alumni currently registered with the Alumni Association.
- Reservations are approved on a first come, first serve basis.
- Individuals and organizations using camp facilities must comply with specific regulations itemized on the camp rule sheet.
- All reservers must pay a camp use deposit. The deposit is refundable upon return of the key and if rule infractions or damages did not occur. (average return time is one week)

Sewell Park/Outdoor Center
- All swimming or water activities are at the risk of the individual.
- No diving or jumping is permitted from bridges, trees, or other non-entrance locations.
- Please use steps/handrail to enter the water.
- Pets, glass containers, and alcohol are not permitted in Sewell Park.
- Reservation forms for events in Sewell Park may be picked up at the Outdoor Center, SRC or on the web. All events must end by 12 midnight.
- Reserving individuals and organizations will be held financially responsible for any damage to or theft of Sewell Park property which occurs while they are using the park. A sponsor or his/her designated group representative must be present whenever the park is reserved, and a member of the reserving group is using it.
- All individuals and organization members in the park must leave it in an acceptable condition. All trash and litter must be placed in containers provided for such use.
- The restrooms, surrounding grounds, and other facilities must be picked up before each group departs.
- If vehicles must enter the park, they must have an Outdoor Center staff walk with the vehicle. Vehicles may enter one at a time by accessing the small parking lot off of University Drive and remain on the sidewalk. Vehicles must stay off of grass at all times
- Vehicles may park on the slab for loading and unloading purposes only, and should be moved out of the park at all other times.
- Approval for vehicle access is granted only by the Assistant Director of Outdoor Recreation at the time of reservation.
SRC Reservation Policy
Student Recreation Center reservations are made by completing a reservation request form at the main office. Please submit two weeks prior to date of reservation. The Associate Director will review and confirm all reservations (72 hours minimum confirmation time).
Solicitation
Any organization or individual affiliated with the University must complete the Department of Campus Recreation solicitation request and be granted approval from the Associate Director before soliciting in SRC or Campus Recreation facilities. In addition, any surveying or questionnaires that are conducted in the SRC must first be pre-approved by the Associate Director. A 24-hour confirmation will be required for any solicitation in the building. Solicitations include flyers, photos, video productions, etc.
Conference Passes
A department or office sponsoring a program on campus may request conference passes for attendees by submitting a request one week in advance to the Associate Director. Daily or weekly fees will be assessed according to program requests.
Forgotten ID Privilege
Members forgetting their ID, membership card or University ID have the option of being sponsored by a card-holding member and paying the daily entrance fee. Although this privilege may appear to be a barrier to you, it actually protects your rights, privileges and use of the SRC as a paying member. Your cooperation in presenting your membership card to the Information Desk staff will be greatly appreciated.
