LAURA THOMAS

  • Major: Recreation Administration
  • Minor: Business
  • Hometown: Abilene, TX
  • Teams: Men's Lacrosse, Baseball, Cycling, Men's Rugby
  • Specialization: Special Events
  • Favorite Thing About Being a Supervisor: I like Supervising because it has given me a great opportunity to work with many different aspects of Campus Recreation. Hopefully I can make a career out of this!
  • Favorite Hobby: I don't have much time for hobbies, but I would say staying active and fit, I like all sports activities.
  • Favorite Place of Campus: SRC, DUH!!
  • Best memory from Supervising: Has to be the first year I was a Supervisor and we beat Angelo State to become the State Champions for Men's Rugby, it was a great game!
  • Worst Injury: This guy ripped the tip of his finger off through a lacrosse glvoe, that was pretty gross!
  • Fun Facts: I love volleyball, food, free time, pool, and being a Supervisor!!!

 

WHITNEY MCKNIGHT

  • Teams: Women's Lacrosse, Women's Volleyball, Women's Ultimate, Paintball
  • Specialization: Communication
  • Favorite Thing About Being a Supervisor: The people.
  • Favorite Hobby: Sleeping.
  • Favorite Place on Campus: The Rec Center
  • Best Memory from Supervising: Camping at U Camp
  • Worst Injury: Torn all the ligaments in both ankels about three times each.
  • General Fun Facts: I am the married one! And I got married in Jamaica!!

 

SARAH LAIRD

  • Major: Bachelors of Science in Respiratory Therapy
  • Hometown: La Porte, Texas
  • Teams: Rodeo, Men's Soccer, Women's Water Polo, Men's Ultimate Disc
  • Specialization: Safety Advisor
  • Favorite Hobby: Playing soccer, game nights with friends, being by water
  • Favorite Place on Campus: SRC, Sewell Park
  • Favorite Thing about being a Supervisor: The cahnce to meet all the dedicated athletes and work to make their seasons a success. I love being a part of the REC family, it's by far the best place to work.
  • Best Memory from Supervising: Going to Nationals with the Women's Soccer team; driving the REC truck; every time our Bobcats win!!! And meeting my best friend and the amazing staff I work with!
  • Worst Injury: My own worst injury would definitely be tearing all the ligaments in my knee. The worst injury I have witnessed would be one of the Rugby players getting kicked in the eye and also quite a few gashes in the heads of Rugby players...enough to see the bone!
  • General Fun Facts: I love love love country music and two steppin'! I love playing soccer and flag football. I hate being touched and I have swam with beluga whales.

JESSE RUIZ

  • Teams: Bass Fishing, Women's Soccer, Wrestling, Men's Volleyball
  • Specialization: Development
  • Favorite Thing About Being a Supervisor: The environment-being able to interact with athletes from different sports is awesome.
  • Favorite Hobby: Working out and reading.
  • Favorite Place on Campus: Top of the parking garage across from my apartment. It's a beautiful view that overlooks San Marvelous!
  • Best Memory from Supervising: Watching our Men's Rugby team win state, again, on our home field!
  • Worst Injury: During 8th grade while playing football; I was paralyzed from the neck down for 30 minutes! I am very lucky to be alive and walking....
  • Fun Facts: I love Elvis, Patsy Cline, light towers, and yoga.

AL DIAZ

  • Major: Master of Arts in Political Science
  • Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
  • Teams: Gymnastics, Swim, Water Ski
  • Specialization: Marketing
  • Favorite Thing About Being a Supervisor: You get to meet lots of interesting people.
  • Favorite Hobby: Playing/Watching baseketball and lounging around.
  • Favorite Place on Campus: Rec Center
  • Best Memory from Supervising: TBD
  • Worst Injury: I ran into the wall at my high school basketball court going after a loose ball.
  • General Fun Facts: Attended UCLA as an undergrad, have a turtle named Shelley, and has a younger brother and sister.
  • Why Texas and Texas State?: After living in Los Angeles my whole life I decided it was time for a major shift. Texas State seemed like the best choice for this. Living in San Marcos will be an adjustment, but everything has been going great so far.

LIZZIE CAMPBELL

  • Major: Bachelor's of Education (EC-6)
  • Hometown: Austin, TX
  • Teams: Tennis, Women's Rugby, Equestrian
  • Specialization: Accounts Specialist
  • Favorite Thing About Being a Supervisor: Being able to store my lunch in the "Staff Only" Break Room :)
  • Favorite Hobby: Watching movies with family and friends.
  • Favorite Place on Campus: The Rec Center.
  • Best Memory from Supervising: So far being able to make my first friends at Texas State in the Sport Clubs Family. :)
  • Worst Injury: Almost tearing my ACL and MCL twice in a matter of three weeks.
  • General Fun Facts: I love coffee, I sing and draw, used to want to be a Fashion Designer, favorite word is "stellar", I would each Chick-FilA seven times a day if I could, Krispy Kreme is like eating a baby angel, love any kind of music, can quote the movie "She's the Man" the whole way through.

ALEX 'ZOT' ZOTTARELLI

  • Major: Biology
  • Hometown: Austin, TX
  • Teams: Fencing, Triathlon, Men's Water Polo
  • Specialization: Community Relations
  • Favorite Thing about being a Supervisor: Getting to learn about various sports as well as meeting the athletes.
  • Favorite Hobby: Swimming in the river.
  • Favorite Place on Campus: Sewell Park
  • Best Memory from Supervising: When teh staff suprised me with a birthday cake during training.
  • Worst Injury: I broke my arm playing rugby. I also fractured my skull, broke my arm, several ribs, and had internal bleeding when I was eight and was hit by a car.
  • General Fun Facts: I've broken six bones (my nose being three of those times), scratched my cornea, lost a tooth (molar), played rugby for a season in Brisbane, Australia, and I want to be an epidemioloist when I grow up.

 

SHANNON DERE

  • Major: Masters of Science in Recreation & Leisure Studies
  • Hometown: San Diego, CA
  • Undergrad College: California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
  • Undergrad Major: Bachelors of Science in Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration with an emphasis in Sport Management
  • Favorite Thing about being a G.A.: Working in Sport Clubs! I absolutely love it here and am so excited to watch all the teams compete. Go Bobcats!
  • Favorite Hobby: Playing lacrosse, game nights, movies, adventures.
  • Favorite Place on Campus: Sport Clubs Office...mostly because I live here.
  • Worst Injury: I tore all the ligaments in my ankle playing lacrosse in Undergrad. It hurt a lot. In Undergrad I saw a lot of dislocations and lacerations...mostly from the Rugby team.
  • General Fun Facts: I played lacrosse in the Bronco's Stadium for nationals, I am certified to teach First Aid/CPR, I have never shot a gun, I am NOT from the Hills, and I used to fence.

 

STEPHANIE THOMPSON

  • Undergraduate School: University of Texas, Austin
  • Favorite Thing About Being the Assistant Director-Sport Clubs: Working with all the passionate Sport Clubs students.
  • Favorite Hobby: Playing tennis, triathlons, golf, hang out with friends, and try new sports.
  • Favorite Place on Campus: University Camp
  • Worst Injury: I broke my tail bone playing soccer in high school. It wasn't fun. I had a doughnut.
  • Fun Facts: I played soccer in Ireland, I have broken seven fingers, my nose three times, my ankle twice, and my tail bone once.
