READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU APPLY
This application is ONLY for current Texas State Lifeguards who have worked for a minimum of one semester (summer counts as one semester). You must have also gone above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis to be considered for this position.
Please note that while we have high standards for all of our lifeguards, the expectations for Head Lifeguards are even greater.
Before you even consider applying for a Head Lifeguard position please understand that the Aquatics & Safety program area depends greatly on the Head Lifeguards and the work that they do. We need Head Lifeguards who are willing to take a leadership role that involves a lot of initiative and willingness to go above and beyond.
Upper management cannot be here every minute the pools are open to catch everything that is going wrong or going right. We depend greatly on strong, reliable, initiative taking Head Guards to not only assist in running the program, but to make it a quality one.
We need Head Guards who will do their jobs with little supervision. They must also be people who are team players and are comfortable coming to me regarding any issue (good or bad) that may arise. They have to be able to think outside of the box in order to continue to keep our program growing.
In addition to having mandatory weekend and week night hours, Head Guards work a minimum of 2 office hours a week. Sometimes they will need to work more, sometimes less. They are also required to attend Head Guard meetings and participate in leadership development activities. They are also expected to have exemplary lifeguarding skills.
In conclusion, if you are going to complete this application, you need to be prepared to accept the challenge of being a Head Lifeguard at Texas State. In order to make sure this is a position that you want, be sure to speak with myself or (better yet) current Head Lifeguards to get a feel for what it is like. Reading the job description is also essential.
