The Texas State Campus Recreation professional staff is dedicated to providing one of the best graduate assistant experiences in a dynamic campus environment that emphasizes student development.

About Us

Texas State Campus Recreation offers services through six main program areas: Facility Operations, Fitness & Wellness, Sport Clubs, Aquatics & Safety, Outdoor Recreation, and Intramural Sports

Graduate assistants are involved in:

  • Office meetings
  • Development of risk management policy and procedures
  • Assessment and evaluation
  • Assisting in budget development and implementation
  • Strategic planning
  • Statistical analysis of programs
  • Technology training and use of software such as Fusion, Microsoft Teams and more
  • Mentoring from professional staff
  • Opportunities to lead, supervise and mentor undergraduate staff
  • Attending and presenting at conferences at regional and national levels
  • And more!

Terms of Employment: 

  • Must be registered for 9 graduate credit hours per semester.
  • Maintain 3.0 GPA each semester in graduate level courses.
  • Average of 20 hours worked per week (unless otherwise approved by the department director).
  • 12-month appointment with opportunity to renew for second year. Appointment ending in May of second year (unless discussed with supervisor).
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • No paid vacation, sick leave, or university-observed holidays (A divisional note will be added regarding university closings).

Salary: 

  • Stipend paid monthly
  • Average of $1317/monthly (first year of employment)
  • Average of $1377/monthly (second year of employment)
