Climbing Center Members: All Belay Clinics are included in your semester membership!

NOTE: All non-Climbing Center Members that use this promo code to register for Belay Clinics will either be removed from the roster, or required to pay the clinic fee prior to admittance.

  • Cost: Free for all participants

    Registration Deadline: 8/25 @ Start of the workshop

    Time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

    These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

    Prerequisite: None

    Description: This intermediate class builds on topics discussed in the Top Rope clinic. The Lead Climbing Clinic will focus on the systems and skills required to lead climb in an indoor setting. Students will learn how to lead belay, catch lead falls, clip quick draws and what to do in case of a fall.

    Prerequisite: Top-rope belay certified and capable of climbing 5.9 comfortably at the Climbing Center

    Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

    These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

    Registration Deadline: 10/19 @ Start of the workshop

    Time: 12:00pm - 4:00pm

    Description: This intermediate class builds on topics discussed in the Top Rope clinic. The Lead Climbing Clinic will focus on the systems and skills required to lead climb in an indoor setting.     Prerequisite: Top-rope belay certified and capable of climbing 5.9 comfortably at the Climbing Center

Not able to make one of the scheduled clinic dates?

Not a problem! If you and/or a group of friends would like to learn how to rock climb, belay, or lead climb you can now schedule a private clinic. 

Simply email outdoorcenter@txstate.edu containing the information outlined below:

    • Introduction to Climbing is two, 2-hour sessions
    • Belay Clinics are 2-hour sessions

    • Lead Climbing Clinic: minimum 2 participants
