  • Cost: $5 non-members/ $0 Climbing Center members

    Registration Deadline: 1/27 @ Start of the workshop

    Time: 6pm-8pm

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

    These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

    Prerequisite: None

    Time: 4pm-6pm (Both Days)

    Description: A two-part series: At the first session (January 30th) you will learn the fundamentals of climbing and build a solid foundation for entering the sport of indoor rock climbing. Never tried rock climbing and don’t know where to start? In this clinic instructors work with participants to grow at their own pace. They will cover rope management, knots, equipment, climbing technique and skills, and climbing etiquette. This workshop is an opportunity to try the sport of climbing with the guidance and supervision of an experienced instructor.

     

    The second session will be a full Belay Clinic that covers equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice.

    Time: 4pm-6pm

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

    These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

    Registration Deadline: 2/16 @ Start of the workshop

    Time: 11am-3pm

    Description: This intermediate class builds on topics discussed in the Top Rope clinic. The Lead Climbing Clinic will focus on the systems and skills required to lead climb in an indoor setting. Students will learn how to lead belay, catch lead falls, clip quick draws and what to do in case of a fall.

    Prerequisite: Top-rope belay certified and capable of climbing 5.9 comfortably at the Climbing Center

    Time: 3pm-5pm

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

Not able to make one of the scheduled clinic dates?

Not a problem! If you and/or a group of friends would like to learn how to rock climb, belay, or lead climb you can now schedule a private clinic. 

Simply email outdoorcenter@txstate.edu containing the information outlined below:

  • Type of requested clinic
  • Date and time of requested clinic
  • Number of participants

Requests will be processed within 5 business days of email submission
