Spring 2021 Schedule 

Climbing Center Members: All Belay Clinics are included in the cost of a semester membership!

NOTE: All non-Climbing Center Members that use this promo code to register for Belay Clinics will either be removed from the roster, or required to pay the clinic fee prior to admittance.

  • Cost: Free for all participants

    Registration Deadline: 1/24 @ Start of the workshop

    Time: 5:00pm - 7:00pm

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

    These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

    Prerequisite: None

  • Cost: $10/team

    Registration Deadline: February 3rd @ 9:00PM (starts February 1)

    Time: Monday - Friday, 4:00-9:00PM

    Capacity: No limit on # of teams. Each team is limited to three climbers (two climbers and one alternate per week)

    Description: Compete with your fellow Bobcats in this 6-week bouldering league! Form teams of 2-3 and fight for a top place this semester! Four new problems of varying difficulty are set each week, and your team has 5 tries per problem to reach the top!

    For all competition rules, see information sheet at the Climbing Center.

    Prerequisite: Must have a current membership at the Texas State Climbing Center to participate.

    Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

    Capacity: Participation is limited to the first 4 registrants

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

    Time: 12:00pm - 5:00pm

    Capacity: Participation is limited to 15 participants per hour.

    Description: Come on your own, or bring someone special, and spend some time at the Climbing Center this Valentine's Day. Staff will be onsite to help belay and get you climbing. Additionally, the ever popular Crate Stacking activity will be available to try out!

    Prerequisite: Student Recreation Center reservations required to participate.

    Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

    Capacity: Participation is limited to the first 4 registrants

    Description: Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Wall or outside at any natural cliff face.

    These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

  • Cost: $25 non-members / $15 Climbing Center members

    Registration Deadline: 2/28 @ Start of the clinic

    Time: 3:00pm - 7:00pm

    Capacity: Participation is limited to the first 4 registrants

    Description: This intermediate class builds on topics discussed in the Belay Clinic. The Lead Climbing Clinic will consist of one 4-hour session focusing on the systems and skills required to lead climb in an indoor setting.

    Students will learn how to lead belay, catch lead falls, clip quickdraws, and how to fall safely while lead climbing. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Lead Skills Assessment to Lead Climb independently at the climbing wall.

    Prerequisite: None

  • Cost: $5 non-members / $0 Climbing Center members

    Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm

    Capacity: Participation is limited to the first 4 registrants

    Divisions:

    • Men's and Women's
      • Beginner(V0 - V2)
      • Intermediate (V2+ - V4+)
      • Advanced (V5 - V7+)

    Fees:

    • A maximum of 15 competitors can register per session time
    • If all sessions fill, Session 5 will be added from 7:00p – 9:00p.
    • If less than 30 competitors register, Sessions 1 and 2 will be removed, and competitors will be combined into Sessions 3 and 4

    Early Bird Registration: Through March 12th, 2021

    • $25 TXST Students
    • $30 All Others

    Registration after March 12th, 2021

    • $35 Everybody

    Day-Of Registration (if available):

    • $40 Everybody

    Registration includes: Contest Entry, swag bag, raffle ticket, and Flash Fest T-Shirt.

      • Shirt quantity is limited. Shirt orders will be made the week of March 29th. Limited sizes available for registrants after order date.

    Rules & Regulations:

    • Masks must be worn properly, and at all times, while in the Student Recreation Center.
    • Categories: Men's and Women's
      • Beginner (V0-V2)
      • Intermediate (V2+ - V4+)
      • Advanced (V5 - V7+)
      • Open* (V8+) Open category will only be used if enough participants compete in this category. Otherwise, Advanced will be the highest category.
    • A Texas State University waiver must be signed upon registration or check-in
    • Climbing Shoes available at no additional cost (supplies limited)
    • Prizes will be given to the top competitors in each category

Not a problem! If you and/or a group of friends would like to learn how to rock climb, belay, or lead climb you can now schedule a private clinic.
