Sewell Park Policies

    • Sewell Park is for use by Texas State University students, staff, and faculty only. Texas State I.D. is required for entrance.
    • Skateboarding and freestyle/trick biking is not permitted in Sewell Park.
    • Pets are prohibited on Sewell Park grounds, apart from Service Animals that meet the criteria outlined in Procedures for General Service and Psychiatric Service Animals, and animals in training for persons with disabilities that meet §121.003(i) of the Texas Human Resources Code. The purpose of this policy is to promote safety, health and hygiene in Academic and Administrative buildings and on University property (01.01).
    • If an unrestrained or unattended animal is observed, the University will attempt to locate the animal’s owner. If the owner is not located, the City of San Marcos Animal Services will be contacted to remove the animal from University property (07.02).
    • The feeding of animal’s at large or wild animals is not allowed on Texas State University property (05.03)
    • Fishing is NOT permitted from any bridge, or in between the two pedestrian bridges. Individuals fishing in these locations will be asked to relocate.
    • Possessing of or shooting spearguns in San Marcos River; permit required (San Marcos Municipality Code, Sec. 58.068).
      • In this section, the term "speargun" means any type of device used for propelling a spear, gig or any other type of hand held spear or projectile through water as a means of shooting or taking fish.
      • It is unlawful for any person to possess or shoot a speargun while in or upon the San Marcos River without a program permit issued by the department.
    • Hammocks and slacklines are damaging to trees that cannot support the weight/tension of their use. This includes established trees over a longer period of time.
      • Tree protection is mandatory and required at all times!
    • Request assistance from Outdoor Center staff in regards to hammock and slackline use.
    • All individuals and organization members in the park must leave park in acceptable condition. All trash and litter must be placed in containers provided in containers provided for such use. The restroom, surrounding grounds, and other facilities must be picked up before each group departs.
    • Glass containers, foam coolers, canopy tents, and portable grills are prohibited in Sewell Park.
    • SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK. Lifeguards are not present or on duty.
    • No diving or jumping is permitted from bridges or trees. Please use steps/handrails to enter the water.
  • Sewell Park vehicle access is prohibited without the direct supervision of Outdoor Center staff. Vehicles must stay off grass and must be parked off-site when not loading or unloading. Parking is available directly at the Outdoor Center only for Campus Recreation vehicles.

    • All events requiring amplified sound require additional approval from the office of student involvement
    • Any event that intends to sell or distribute food must provide detailed plans that are in accordance with U.P.P.S 
    • All reservation fees are non-refundable
    • Additional fees will be applied depending on group size, facility demands, and personnel needs
    • Reservations canceled up to 10 days prior to the event date will be charged an administrative fee
    • Cancellations within 10 days of the event will receive no refund
    • Individuals and organizations will be held financially responsible for any damage or theft of Sewell Park property which occurs while they are using the park
    • All individuals and organization members in the park must leave park in acceptable condition. All trash and litter must be placed in containers provided in containers provided for such use. The restroom, surrounding grounds, and other facilities must be picked up before each group departs
    • All standard Sewell Park policies must be upheld the duration of the special event
