UPDATES

5.18.20

Although some shelter-in-place orders are expiring or being amended at the state, county and local levels, all safety measures Texas State University implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic remain in place through the tentative reopening date of July 6th. This includes Sewell Park, University Camp, all fields and the Student Recreation Center.

Once reopened, all facilities will have social distancing measures in place.

On-Demand Exercise Videos

Work out with our instructors and trainers whenever you want with these pre-recorded classes. These classes are available whenever you need a break or a good sweat. We have yoga, HIIT, Barre, and Toning classes available. Check the website to see new classes being added every week! 

 

Live Zoom Group Exercise Classes

Join us for our regularly scheduled live classes taught by our instructors each week! Classes include HIIT, Bodyweight Bootcamp, Yoga, Zumba, Stretching, Meditation, and Core! The schedule runs through May 9th but Stretching and Meditation classes will continue until further notice. Check back with us frequently for class additions and then our new Summer I schedule. 

 

E-Sports

Sign up for E-Sports via Fusion IM
There is still time to join one of the remaining spring semester E-sports tournaments: Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden, NBA 2K, and Rocket League. Deadlines are approaching so register soon.

 

Last Day 5K 2020

Participate on May 4, 2020 in the virtual Last Day 5K which can be accomplished by walking or jogging, inside or outside.  Please consider social distancing protocols while participating. Those that do will be eligible to win a prize for participating.

 

Mileage Challenge 2020

Wrap up the spring semester by participating in the Mileage Challenge. The Mileage Challenge begins April 26 and last until the last class day, May 4. The challenge will be to see who can walk/run the furthest during the time frame stated. Prizes will be awarded to different category winners. Please join us!

Sewell Park Closure

 

In order to best serve the interest of public health, Sewell Park on the Texas State University San Marcos Campus will close at sunset today, March 24, 2020, and remain closed until further notice. 

 

Texas State continues to focus on the safety of our community and will adjust procedures as needed in the coming days, weeks, and months.

 

Please remember these declarations and enforcements are to protect our community as we all work together to stop the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Will the Student Recreation Center remain open?

Per Texas Governor Greg Abbott's statewide order that gyms were to close, the Student Recreation Center will be closed effective Friday March 20th, 2020. Check here for home and mobile workouts.

Adjusted Hours and Policies for COVID-19 

 

In response to COVID-19, Campus Recreation has adjusted hours and enacted preventative measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff. These adjustments are subject to change at any moment.


Updated hours for all facilities are available at our hours page. Only the following spaces will be available at the Student Recreation Center: 

  • Indoor Track

  • Every third cardio machine will be available to allow for social distancing

  • Weight machines (Free weights not available).

  • Natatorium (Pool)


Additional safety precautions have been put into place to combat the spread of COVID-19:

  • Higher quantities of hospital-grade disinfectant spray for workout areas.

  • Hand scanners are disabled until further notice. Please bring your student ID.

  • Increased frequency of staff cleaning schedules.

  • High-traffic doorways will be propped open to reduce touch surfaces

  • Help us help you by following good hygiene practices.


Any students registered for a campus recreation program or service will be contacted directly via email for information on cancellations or changes. Updates will be posted via our social media pages at @txstrec and our website. For any questions or concerns email  recmarketing@txstate.edu
