Every new adventure begins at a Trailhead; so why not your college experience?

Trailhead is Texas State's extended adventure-based orientation designed to assist students with their transition into the Texas State University community. While on their student-led adventure trip, students will learn about Bobcat traditions, college life, and campus resources in a diverse and unique backcountry setting! 

In the evenings, students will participate in group discussions facilitated by current TXST students and staff in order to prepare them for college and life in San Marcos, Texas.

Maximum Group Size: 10 

  • All trips operate with a 2:1 Participant to Trip Leader ratio.

Trip Option #1: June 22 - 28 

  • Required Pre-trip Meeting: June 11 @ 6PM 

Trip Option #2: July 13 - 19 

  • Required Pre-trip Meeting: July 1 @ 6PM

Price: $350.00 (all-inclusive!)

  • Includes: All travel, equipment, food, permits, etc.

Please email outdoorcenter@txstate.edu after registering, if you are unavailable for your indicated pre-trip meeting date.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 Travel Day

Welcome to the trailhead, the beginning of your journey as a new Bobcat! As the sun rises on your new adventure, you and your new friends will travel to camp!

Day 2-5 Backpacking

Enjoy backpacking in the Gila Wilderness. You and your friends will you learn wilderness skills, and what it means to be a Bobcat from current students.

Day 6-7 Returning to Campus

As the sun sets on your first adventure as a Bobcat, you will share contact info with your new friends and get ready to tackle your first year as a Bobcat!
